Here at That Plant Shop, the leading online nursery based in Sydney, we we grow hundreds of different plants and have vast experience in growing hundreds of different herbs. As such, we have provided some useful tips that will help you grow fresh delicious parsley.

When to plant

Parsley can be started indoors or planted directly in the outdoors. You should begin to plant your parsley seeds in individual pots indoors between 6 to 8 weeks before the last spring frost date. Parsley takes around 70 to 90 days to grow, so keep that in mind! The soil should be around 21 degrees Celsius when planting- however can withstand low temperatures to 10 degrees Celsius.

Sunlight and soil

Parsley is extremely easy to grow, being able to thrive in full sun or partial shade- however needs rich and moist soil with a pH around 5.5 to 6.7. You can improve your soil quality by mixing in aged compost in the top layer of existing soil before you decide to plant. Your parsley should get at least 6 hours of sunlight a day- so if you are planting it indoors, make sure it is by a sunny window. Additionally, since parsley tends to spread out a lot, make sure you have enough room for each plant to grow.

How to plant

Parsley tends to grow fairly slow, especially when it is still a seed- so if you are planting them from the seed, be sure to soak the seeds for around 1-2 hours before sowing to increase your success rate.  Be sure to plant parsley seeds around ¼ inches deep, and around 6 to 8 inches apart.

How to harvest

Growing your parsley is one thing, but harvesting is a whole other. When leaf stems have at least 3 segments, that is when your parsley is ready to be harvested. Cut leaves from the outer stems of the plant when you need them, to ensure that your parsley remains fresh.
